Dear Friend,

Ed Reavy Commemorative Festival 2015

I attended and spoke at the launch by Cavan Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann of the Ed Reavy Commemorative Festival to be held next year. A Maudabawn man Ed was a prolific and brilliant composer of Irish Music. His theatre of operation was Philadelphia and particularly the renowned Irish Area Corktown. The launch was well attended with an outstanding concert by the young members of Cavan Comhaltas. I was so happy that my own son Daire was one of them. Next year’s festival will be one not to be missed.

World War 1 Commemoration
Attended the commemoration ceremonies. Our colleague Minister Humphrey’s launched the wreath laying ceremony on Friday. I would strongly urge you to still visit the exhibition and the Trench at Cavan County Museum which I had the privilege of opening. We have really matured as a nation in the way we are practically honouring all our traditions and finally recognising that there was idealism and heroism in all.

Taste Of Cavan
Opened by Minister Humphreys the festival has been a huge success attracting record attendances. It is an incredible showcase of Cavan farm produce. I got to all the stands and was very impressed.

Social Housing Funding for Cavan
This week I welcomed the allocation of €159,585 from Minister of State at the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government, Paudie Coffey TD, for local authority houses in County Cavan. This allocation is earmarked specifically for the adaption of such houses, enabling them to meet the needs of tenants with disabilities. I was very pleased to see that Cavan County Council are to get €159,585 in funding from the Department, ensuring that they are able to carry out these very worthwhile improvements. You can read my press statement on this here.

Second Year of Pre School
This week I called for a second year of the Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme to be put in place. I did local Radio on the issue and I have been raising the issue at National Level and lobbying on it. You can read my press statement on this here.

You will have noticed in media this week particularly through the ESRI Report that our economy is lifting in a big way. It is really gratifying and we should all be so proud of it.

You know you are always welcome to be in touch on a personal or community issue.
