Job Seekers Allowance

If you are aged 18 years or over and are unemployed, you may be entitled to Job Seekers Allowance of Jobseekers Benefit. Jobseekers Allowance is also known as Unemployment Assistance, Jobseekers Benefit is a weekly payment to people who are out of work and it is covered by PRSI.   The personal rate of Jobseekers Allowance was reduced to €100 per week for new claimants under 20 years of age.

To get Jobseekers Allowance you must be,

  • Unemployed
  • Over 18 years of and and under 66 years of age.
  • Be capable of work
  • Be available and genuinely seeking work.
  • Satisfy the means test
  • Have proof of your residence in Ireland.

You can only claim either the Jobseekers Benefit or the Jobseekers Allowance at the one time. Drop into the Social Welfare Office in Cavan Town and they will be able to let you know which scheme you qualify for.
