Senator O’Reilly raises Broadband and Tax Questions with E.U. Vice President and Commissioner Mr. Andrus Ansip

picThe Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Change and Natural Resources was today addressed by the E.U. Commissioner for the Digital Single Market Mr. Ansip.  Cavan Monaghan Senator Joe O’Reilly is a member of the Committee and raised a number of issues with the Commissioner in Public Session.


Senator O’Reilly stressed the fundamental need for High Speed Broadband to be provided to every home in Ireland.  Noting that the delivery will be a joint venture between the public and private sector Senator O’Reilly sought the Commissioner’s support for and views on controlling prices for consumers.  He further stated that the development of e commerce or internet sales depends on availability of broadband with great opportunity in our Border Area due to Brexit.  Replying the Commissioner expressed support and said that the Commission will shortly deliver more in this area.


Senator O’Reilly also raised the Apple Case and the Government’s annoyance with the Apple Ruling which the Commissioner noted
