POTENTIAL IN ENERGY CO-OPERATION BETWEEN IRELAND AND UK

Speaking during the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement Committee this afternoon, Vice-Chairman Deputy Joe O’Reilly asked Northern Ireland Secretary of State, Owen Patterson, what extra areas of economics would he support for the benefit of people North and South of the Border.
In response to this question the Secretary of State said that he believed that there was a much greater potential in areas of energy co-operation between Ireland and the United Kingdom and between Northern Ireland and the Republic.
The Secretary of State was of the view that the provision of more interconnectors could greatly reduce energy costs with obvious social and economic benefits.
