Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Joe O’Reilly, has welcomed the announcement from Minister Tom Hayes (today, 14th April) that the 2015 Forestry Premium payments will be issued to Cavan and Monaghan forest owners by the end of this week.

Speaking after he was informed of this, by Minister Hayes, the Deputy said “I am pleased to learn that the annual tax-free forestry premium payments for 2015 will be issued by the Department of Agriculture today (14th April), with forest owners receiving payment by the end of this week.”

“Forest premiums are payable annually under the Afforestation Grant and Premium Scheme, which also provide for planting and establishment grants for new afforestation projects that are compliant with national and EU legislation and operational and environmental guidelines.”

“I understand that 7,708 applications were processed nationally, for payment this year, with a value of €23.73 million and I the Minister has given assurances that forestry premium applications will continue to be processed by the Department, throughout the year.”

“In Cavan there are 9,827ha under private forestry with an output of €2.4 million and in Monaghan 3,407ha, with an annual output of €900,000. It is clear to see from these figures that this is a very important part of the Cavan/Monaghan Agricultural Sector and I am confident that the new Forestry Programme 2014-2020, which consists of 11 measures with increased grant and premium rates for new afforestation projects, will prove equally attractive to landowners.”
