Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Joe O’Reilly, welcomed the news that in 2012, €253 million was spent on Agri-Environment Schemes.

Explaining the various schemes and their rates of payment, the Deputy said ‘Under REPS 4 just over 24,000 applicants received their 2012 payment, with the majority paid their full 100%. This represents an improvement of 2,000 in the previous year’s figures which saw just under 22,000 paid in the year of application. 6,000 AEOS 1 applicants have now received their 2012 payment with the remaining cases expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.

‘Under AEOS 2, of the 6,250 successful applicants nearly 5,000 have now received their 2011 payment. 2012 payments have also commenced under AEOS 2, with approximately 2,000 having being paid to date. This payment represents the first full year payment for these applicants’, said the Deputy.

Commenting on AEOS 3 the Deputy had this to say ‘Approximately 10,000 AEOS 3 applications have been received and the Department is currently processing these applications and they will shortly issue acknowledgement letters to all applicants. It is expected that the processing of the applications will take 3-4 months, with letters issuing to all applicants informing them of the outcome.’
‘I would like to stress that AEOS 3 applicants should not undertake any actions listed in their application until approved into the scheme as actions undertaken/expense incurred prior to the receipt of an approval letter will not be eligible for reimbursement’ concluded the Deputy.
