Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Joe O’Reilly, has today, 11th February, welcomed the agreement that was reached on the European Seven Year Budget Package last week. This new deal now goes before Parliament and the agreement includes €1.5 billion per year for Ireland under CAP (Common Agricultural Policy).

This represents a big success for Irish Farmers and is coupled on this occasion with a special €100 million package for the BMW (Border, Midlands and West) Region, which includes Co. Cavan. The overall package will provide and support comprehensive direct payment to farmers and a strong rural development scheme.

Commenting on the deal, Deputy Joe O’Reilly, who leads the Irish Delegation of Parliamentarians to the Council of Europe, said ‘It is a huge achievement in the present EU Budgetary Framework. It will provide a major injection to the Irish Agricultural Sector, sustaining the family farm unit over the next seven years’.

‘Matched with the deal on our debt last week, it gives this country the necessary impetus for further recovery’ he concluded.
