O’Reilly TD welcomes €159,585 for local authority housing adaptations in Cavan

Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Joe O’Reilly has today (Thursday) welcomed the allocation of €159,585 from Minister of State at the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government, Paudie Coffey TD, for local authority houses in County Cavan. This allocation is earmarked specifically for the adaption of such houses, enabling them to meet the needs of tenants with disabilities.

Speaking after he was informed of this news, the Deputy said “I am very pleased to see that Cavan County Council are to get €159,585 in funding from the Department, ensuring that they are able to carry out these very worthwhile improvements.”

“Cavan County Council initially sought this exact amount from the Department and I am glad to see that they are getting the full allocation that they requested. Thousands of people are living in local authority housing I Cavan and I know first-hand that many of these individuals have disabilities. It is our duty to make sure that everyone living in social housing is in an environment that is of a certain standard and that is suitable for their personal and physical needs. This funding seeks to address this issue and will raise the standard of living for all people in the community.”

“The provision of housing is a priority for this Government. As well as building new homes, it is vital that we upgrade the houses where people are already living. This funding is very welcome and I am confident it will make a big difference to many people in Cavan.
