O’REILLY CALLS FOR COMMON AGRICULTURE POLICY TO BE TOP IRISH PRIORITY

Speaking at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs with Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore present, Fine Gael TD for Cavan called on him to make the Common Agricultural Policy a top priority for the next General Affairs Council Meeting in Brussels and for the Irish Presidency in the first half of 2013.

Deputy O’Reilly stated that the Common Agriculture Policy was the bedrock on which the Irish Economy rested and was vital for food security in Europe. In reply, the Tánaiste, Eamon Gilmore TD, assured the Deputy that the Common Agricultural Policy would be top of the Irish agenda. He also assured the Deputy that he was confident that discretion over its spending could be kept within the County. He expressed optimism about the future of the Common Agricultural Policy within the multi-annual financial framework.

Speaking afterwards the Deputy stated that he was very reassured that the Common Agricultural Policy was top priority with every Irish voice in Europe.
