Northeast Health Services are low on the priority list

Senator Joe O’Reilly today expressed his concern that surgery has been suspended in Cavan General Hospital due to overcrowding. He is calling on the government not to hit the ailing health service in December’s monster budget.

In the past week there has been a 40 to 50 per cent increase in referrals to the emergency department, surgery has been suspended and many people have been left in the lurch. ‘The huge increase in demand on the services in Cavan General Hospital and the subsequent curtailments highlight the critical nature of the situation in the hospital stated Senator O’ Reilly. The Minister for Health has warned of “substantial and enormous” Health cutbacks of at least €600 million. ‘There is no room for further cutbacks in Cavan General Hospital, with staff shortages and increased demand already causing huge problems. ‘ said Senator O’ Reilly.
