Major Investment in West Cavan

I am delighted to welcome the ‘multi million’ investment in West Cavan that comes with the Department of Education and Minister Joe Mc Hugh’s approval of a new ETB College. The New College to be located in Ballyconnell will offer students:

• Technology Enabled and Specialist Classrooms.

• Physics Chemistry and Biology Laboratories.

• Technology, Engineering, Art, Music, and Home Economics Practical Rooms.

• Multimedia School Library.

• Pastoral and Career Guidance Offices.

• Fully Equipped PE Hall with Fitness Suite.

• A Special Education Needs Suite Creating Continuity From State Of The Arts Now At Primary Level.

Senator O Reilly acknowledges ‘the very strong advocacy of Councillor Peter Mc Vitty ably supported by former ETB Chair Councillor Madeleine Argue for this project’.

He further acknowledges

‘the professionalism of CEO Mr John Kearney and his staff in their submissions and consultations’.

This new school ‘will marry the long established excellence of St Mogues and St Bricin’s and create an exciting twenty first century college’. states Senator O Reilly.

The teaching staffs of these two schools deserve great credit for their outstanding successes in less than ideal conditions.

We must recognise the sincere concerns of some residents in the catchment areas of the existing schools.

The time that it will take to put the new College in place ‘must be used to ensure ETB activities with employment go into both St Mogues and St Bricin’s’.

‘Now that the decision is made I would appeal to the entire West Cavan Community to unite in support of both the New College and efforts to ensure employment orientated activities are achieved for the existing schools’ concluded Senator O Reilly.
