Good news for parents in Cavan who can now avail of Meningitis B and Rotavirus vaccinations from December 1st

I welcome the news that parents in Cavan will be able to avail of the Meningitis B and Rotavirus vaccinations from December 1st.

“This week my colleague Minister for Health Simon Harris TD confirmed that parents can avail of Meningococcal B and Rotavirus vaccinations from their family doctor from the 1st of December.  This follows consultation under the Framework Agreement between the Irish Medical Organisation, the Department of Health and the HSE.

“All Cavan babies born on, or after, the 1st October 2016 will receive vaccines for Meningococcal B (Men B) and Rotavirus disease, in addition to the other childhood vaccines currently given. The first doses of these vaccines are given at two months of age, which means that the first babies are due to begin receiving these vaccines from the beginning of December.

“The HSE has been working with GPs and other health professions for a number of months to prepare for the introduction of the new vaccines. This work has included providing training to over 3,000 vaccinators, distributing vaccines to GP practices, and the providing information on the new vaccines to parents and professionals.

“This development is good news for parents in Cavan and I am very pleased Meningitis B and Rotavirus have been added to the Primary Childhood Immunisation Programme.  This will make further improvements to public health here in Cavan.

“I am also pleased that the Government has the support of GPs here in Cavan and around the country to deliver this.

“As the economy continues to recover, Fine Gael is determined to ensure that the benefits of this recovery are felt in every community across Ireland and I am determined to ensure they’re felt across Cavan.

“As a Government Senator for Cavan I am working hard to ensure that the Government delivers for Cavan. We are using the economic progress to make people’s lives a little better, and advances like this one are very much part of that.”
