Fine Gael TD calls on Minister Creighton to address issue Youth Unemployment at next European Council Meeting.

Speaking during the European Affairs Committee Meeting yesterday, May 24th, Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Joe O’Reilly raised the issue of the Youth Unemployment with Minister for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton TD.
Minister Creighton attended a preparatory meeting with the EU Affairs Committee to outline the programme of the next European Council Meeting with the Committee members.
‘I raised with Minister Creighton the importance of urgently addressing the growing level of Youth Unemployment. This is an area that I feel needs immediate attention and is something that needs to be brought to the table at European level. I stressed the point that urgent funding is needed to deal with this issue’ stated the Deputy.
‘Investment given to Ireland from Europe should be ring-fenced to support youth unemployment. Job Stimulus and Job Creation are paramount and need to be kept high on the Irish and European agenda. Youth Unemployment needs to be made a high priority’ explained the Deputy.
Commenting on Deputy O’Reilly’s concerns the Minister assured him that youth unemployment would be kept high on the agenda and that she will be raising the Deputy’s concerns at the next European Council Meeting.
