DEPUTY O’REILLY WELCOMES NEW SHORT STAY UNIT FOR CAVAN GENERAL HOSPITAL

Speaking after he was informed by the HSE that Cavan General approval was granted from the Department of Health, to provide a transitional Short Stay Unit (SSU) in Cavan General Hospital, Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Joe O’Reilly welcomed this news.
‘This Short Stay Unit is a new way of managing patients. It commenced on Thursday 27th September 2012 and consists of 16 beds which accommodate short-stay medical inpatients, i.e. under 48 hours length of stay’ explained the Deputy.
‘These patients are selected by the medical team based on their care needs. The purpose of the Short Stay Unit is to improve patient flow and reduce average length of stay resulting in an overall reduction in bed days used’ continued Deputy.

‘This Unit will support the on going improved performance in patient waiting times in the Emergency Department in Cavan General Hospital, which has seen a 42% reduction in admitted patients waiting for beds compared to same period in 2011’ concluded the Deputy.
