Child benefit, Class Sizes Untouched and Free GP Care for Children Under Five- O’Reilly TD

Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Joe O’ Reilly, has today expressed his satisfaction that Budget 2014 continued investment in children by leaving class sizes and child benefit untouched, as well as providing free GP care for children aged 5 and under.

Following the announcements today by Ministers Noonan and Howlin, Deputy O’ Reilly reacted by stating ‘I was glad to hear that benefits for children will be protected in 2014. This decision reflects our determination to prioritise young people and their education.’

Speaking on the introduction of free GP care for children aged 5 and under, the deputy, almost contently, stated ‘this new development will ensure that families with young children will no longer have to worry about the cost of bringing their children to the doctor. The provision of free GP care for children comes as a result of extra funding provided by the Government to the Department of Health.’

‘This marks the first step in the commitment of the Government to roll out Universal Health Insurance and builds upon the 43% of people already availing of free visits to their GP.’
