National Irish Bank site acquired for new Garda station in Bailieborough

The Office of Public Works has now acquired the National Irish Bank site in Bailieborough for development of the new regional Garda station.

“I am delighted to confirm that the Office of Public Works has now acquired the National Irish Bank site in Bailieborough for the development of the new regional Garda headquarters, which is vital in terms of serving  the policing needs of our entire Garda district.

“Having been in frequent contact with the Office of Public Works, and the Minister of State in the Department of Finance, Eoghan Murphy TD, regarding the new regional Garda headquarters in Bailieborough, I am pleased with news that this site has now been acquired, and the development of our new Garda station can finally proceed.

“The new regional Garda headquarters is vital, both in terms of the policing needs of the local community in the Bailieborough, and for the entire Garda district. It is also essential in terms of supporting the hard-working men and women of An Garda Síochána in the work they do on our behalf on a daily basis.

“Furthermore, this new Garda station will assist in providing our local Gardaí with the infrastructural support they require both now, and into the future. The development of the new regional Garda headquarters in Bailieborough will also be important in terms of ensuring people in our local community, and across our Garda district, can feel safer in their own homes and on our streets.

“I am pleased that the construction of the new Garda station can now finally go ahead. The construction process, in itself, will generate employment in our area, and provide an important boost to our local economy.

“As the local Fine Gael representative, I will continue to work with Minister Eoghan Murphy, and the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald TD, in order to ensure that any further delays to the development of this vital infrastructure are avoided, and that this project is completed as a matter of urgency.

“Local residents in Bailieborough, and in every community in our local Garda district, have waited too long for this project to begin. I am delighted that the construction of our new regional Garda headquarters is finally becoming a reality.”
