I believe the provision of proper broadband services for communities across Cavan and Monaghan is crucial for on-going job creation.
“Broadband is a big issue for communities across Cavan and Monaghan. We need to ensure that rural Ireland, including Cavan and Monaghan, are equipped to attract jobs and investment and the provision of proper broadband services is essential in allowing us to achieve this.
“Even in terms of people accessing domestic broadband services, it cannot be accepted as the norm for people to have to buy boosters to gain acceptable broadband access in their own homes. We need to have broadband access in every house in Cavan and Monaghan, and across all of rural Ireland.
“While I understand that much is being done in terms of furthering the roll-out of broadband to rural Ireland, and that the number of homes with access to high-speed broadband is increasing, we cannot underestimate the importance of adequate broadband services when it comes to attracting jobs to Cavan and Monaghan.
“Ensuring that counties like Cavan and Monaghan have access to the proper infrastructure, including high-speed broadband, is essential in terms of preparing our communities to gain from any opportunities that may result from Brexit.
“In terms of companies which may move to Ireland from the UK in order to retain access to the single market, the Government must act to ensure many of them locate in rural Ireland. Broadband services will undoubtedly be a factor in attracting such companies, and therefore, the provision of high-speed broadband to Cavan, Monaghan and the entirety of rural Ireland must remain a priority for this Government.”
