O’Reilly congratulates local young entrepreneur finalists

Fine Gael TD for Cavan/Monaghan, Joe O’Reilly has congratulated the Cavan and Monaghan finalists Mark O’Reilly and Steven Murphy, competing to be named as Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) in the national final on 7th December. Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, lauched the competition this year as part of the Action Plan for Jobs.

“Cavan man Mark O’Neill’s company, Complete Receipt, is up for award in the best new idea category. While Monaghan’s Steven Murphy has been nominated in the best start-up category for his business, Old Carrick Mill.

“Over 1,000 young entrepreneurs, all aged between 18 and 30 and from every county in Ireland, applied for the first ever ‘Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur’ competition, which is being run by the Local Enterprise Offices. 24 finalists from 17 counties have now made it to the December national final at Google’s European Headquarters in Dublin and I am delighted that the Cavan/Monaghan area is so well represented through Mark and Steven.

“A total €2million fund is available to county winners and the overall national winners will each win a total of up to €70,000 investment in their business, as well as a place on the Google “Adopt a Startup” programme 2015.

“Two thirds of all new jobs come from start-ups in their first five years of existence – that is why these measures to encourage entrepreneurship are so important to be greatly encouraged.

“This Government is encouraging more young people to consider starting a business as a career choice, and that is why we have put in place IBYE – to support, encourage, and celebrate our brilliant young entrepreneurs.

“I wish Mark and Steven the very best of luck on the 7th December.”

Ends.
