Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Deputy Joe O’Reilly, has today, 26th of February, welcomed the news from Minister for Environment and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD, that Virginia Show Society are to receive €500,000 in funding, under the Rural Development Programme, from the Department.
Speaking after he was informed by the Minister, Deputy O’Reilly said ‘I am delighted to have been informed by Minister Hogan that he has given sanction to Cavan-Monaghan Leader to approve funding of €500,000 to Virginia Show Centre Ltd. This funding will go towards the construction of an integrated rural resource centre on the current site of the showgrounds in Virginia.’
‘The facility will consist of two main elements: (a) a multi-purpose events arena, and (b) a two-storey annex incorporating kitchen, dining hall, farm shop, reception area, meeting rooms, manager’s office and external viewing area. The funding is being provided under the Basic Services for the Economy and Rural Population measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013’ explained the Deputy.
‘I would like to congratulate the Virginia Show Society on their excellent initiative and well run scheme, Councillor Paddy O’Reilly for all his work on this project and Cavan Leader for a professional application’ said Deputy O’Reilly.
‘With an estimated total project cost of €890,473.67, this is a very significant investment by the promoters and will enhance the quality of life of the urban and rural community of Virginia through providing them with their first dedicated community facility. This project will now go back to the Board of Cavan-Monaghan Leader for final approval’ concluded the Deputy.
